Poznań’s Egyptian Street Food Spot Taking Polwiejska by Storm!

The Lowdown

If you’ve been anywhere near Polwiejska street recently, you’ve probably heard the buzz about Egypt, a newly opened Egyptian street food joint that’s got people lining up late into the night. Owned by Eslam, aka Yosry, a young and ambitious Egyptian entrepreneur, this place has quickly become a hotspot for both Poznań’s Arab community and locals alike. He’s found the perfect formula, with the crowd split 50-50 between expats and Poles—and we had to check it out for ourselves.

The Shawarma

When we rolled up, we weren’t surprised to see the place packed. People ordering takeout, diners squeezed into every seat, and a vibe that made it feel like Cairo in the heart of Poznań. With just a few minutes to spare, we went for the most popular street food item on the menu: the beef shawarma bun for just 18 PLN.

Eslam assured us it’s just like the ones you’d get on the streets of Cairo, no salad, just beef grilled to perfection, chopped with tomatoes, and topped with a tahini sauce you’ll dream about. Tahini, a creamy sesame-based sauce, adds that nutty richness and brings the whole flavor profile together. The meat’s juicy, smoky, and melts in your mouth, making it clear why this is their star dish.

The Size

The size? Small, as noted on the menu, but think Big Mac-sized or slightly bigger. They skip the medium option and go straight to large and XL for 26 PLN and 36 PLN respectively. Given the quality, it’s easily one of the best deals in town—especially when a regular burger can set you back over 40 PLN these days.

The Vibe

The vibe inside? Pure Middle Eastern magic. It felt like we were sitting in Cairo’s famous Al-Hussein Street, known for its bustling street food scene. The atmosphere is raw, real, and authentic, making you forget for a second that you’re in Poland.

Though we were in a rush, we totally get the hype. The food is on point, the prices unbeatable, and the overall experience something new and fresh for Poznań. We’re already planning our next trip back to try the kofta for 26 PLN, which we hear is another crowd favorite. Plus, Eslam told us the foul—a traditional Egyptian breakfast dish made from fava beans, tahini sauce, and secret herbs—for 22 PLN is a must-try if you’re there during the day. It’s hearty, flavorful, and packs a punch of Middle Eastern comfort.

The Hours

And the best part? They’re open until 4 AM on weekends and midnight during the week, so whether you’re craving a late-night snack or a quick lunch, Eslam’s got you covered.

The Story

This place is more than just a restaurant. It’s a story of hard work, persistence, and passion. Despite juggling this growing business, Eslam’s also a computer science student. Talk about hustle. If you ever needed proof that hard work pays off, this is it. So, next time you’re on Polwiejska, do yourself a favor and stop by Egypt. We’re sold, and we bet you will be too.
