So how many restaurants were chosen in Poland for the MICHELIN Guide in 2023? The 2023 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Poland features 22 new additions, resulting in a total of 49 recommended restaurants: 18 in Cracow, 11 in Poznań, 1 in Kościelisko, and 19 in the capital, Warsaw. The actual number of restaurants that got at least one star though includes one restaurant newly promoted to Two MICHELIN Stars and 2 restaurants newly awarded One MICHELIN Star. So only three restaurants in Poland were awarded Michelin stars which doesn’t seem enough to us! In fact, it seems absurd!
Bottiglieria 1881 in Krakow is Poland’s first ever Two MICHELIN Star restaurant, having been promoted from its One MICHELIN Star status. For those who like to watch chefs in action, there are tables in front of the open kitchen. The drive and maturity of that kitchen is palpable in dishes that are as refined as they are original. Understated menu descriptions like ‘Fish and Peas’ and ‘Countryside Pork’ belie the artistry and layers of flavor which underpin in each dish.
2 New One MICHELIN Star Restaurants
With the addition of the city of Poznań, Muga goes straight into the Guide with One MICHELIN Star. The ground floor of a smart apartment building is the setting for this formal and professionally run restaurant which opened in 2014. There is depth, elegance, finesse and balance to the cooking, in dishes such as scallops with sea lettuce and quinoa, and roasted duck with beetroot and elderberry.
In Warsaw, experienced chef and restaurateur Andrea Camastra’s previous restaurant ‘Senses’ was sadly a casualty of the pandemic, but he has bounced back with a vengeance with the opening of NUTA. Flavors and textures from across Poland combine with his Italian heritage and his love of Asian food to create original dishes like Baltic sea trout with Oscyoek, and Leczo with lobster, calamari, and octopus.
How many restaurants have stars in Poland compared to the UK?
188 restaurants in the UK hold at least one Michelin star. There are 160 one-Michelin-star restaurants, 20 two-Michelin-star restaurants, and just eight three-Michelin-star restaurants – no restaurants were awarded three stars in 2023. That’s an obscene difference compared to Poland!
Which country has the most stars?
Even the UK is dwarfed when it comes to France and the number of restaurants with stars. France has a total of 632 restaurants that have Michelin stars. 74 of these restaurants have earned at least two Michelin stars, while 29 restaurants have earned a total of three stars.
