Yo Poznan!
Poznań Daily is all about meeting people, finding new spots, and uncovering where the city’s heartbeat is the loudest. And guess what? We finally slid into the orbit of Dřevný Kocůr — not exactly the new kid on the block (their first restaurant in Poznań opened back in 2017), but a place that’s been quietly building its rep and flexing its claws across other cities too. Word on the street has been loud, so naturally, we had to find out if it’s really that good.

By the way. “Dřevný Kocůr” might sound like a new techno DJ from Prague, but in fact it literally means “Wooden Tomcat.” No idea why a cat made of wood is their spirit animal, but hey — it sticks in your head, right?”
The Food
Tucked right next to Apollo Cinema and Musical Theatre in the Apollo Passage, Dřevný Kocůr serves up Czech flair with plenty of personality. Manager Marta told us straight: their menu is all about classic Czech soul food spiced up with a bit of culinary freedom. Think steaming goulash with dumplings, golden fried cheese, utopenec (the Czech “pickled sausage of the gods”), and hermelin that’s been pickled to perfection. Meat lovers, don’t panic — burgers, steaks, ribs, shrimp, and salads are also here to keep you fueled.

The Garden
But hey, food aside — let’s talk about the garden. Because this is where the magic happens. The space has been totally renovated, bricked over (no more wobbly tables, hallelujah), and lined with trees that throw just the right amount of shade. You’ll eat in peace, without sweating like a tourist lost on Maltańskie in July. They’ve even have a proper stage for live acts, and — brace yourself — hired enough staff to actually serve you before your beer and cocktails gets warm. Revolutionary, right?

The Beer
Speaking of beer… this is tank Budweiser Budvar territory. The kind that matures for 90 days down in the cellars of České Budějovice. No pasteurization, no shortcuts, no funny business — just fresh, unfiltered, unpasteurized beer that never touches air until it lands in your glass. Forget bottles and cans. This is the real deal. Honestly, it tastes like beer should taste if beer had a therapist and finally dealt with its issues.

The Lineup
And here’s the kicker: until the end of August, Dřevný Kocůr is running weekly outdoor music nights in that garden. Think of it as the perfect combo: hot food, cold beer, and live music to soundtrack your summer. Here’s what’s coming up next:
- 16.08 – Mihael Mar (DJ)
- 22.08 – Weronika Grenda (Violin)
- 23.08 – Night Owl (DJ)
- 29.08 – Paulina Leśna (Vocal) + Kuba Wilczek (Piano)
- 30.08 – Raft (DJ)
It’s a lineup that’s as varied as the menu — DJs spinning grooves, live violin, vocals, and piano sets. Basically, whether you’re in the mood to vibe, chill, or dance awkwardly after your third Budvar, there’s something here for you.

Wrapping Up
But listen, summer in Poland is short. Blink and it’s pumpkin spice latte season. These events wrap up in just six weeks, so get yourself to Dřevný Kocůr’s garden before it’s too late. We’ll be back in a few days to crown our Top 3 dishes and drinks and give you the lowdown from one of these music nights ourselves. Can’t wait.
