Can a franchise be any good?
Can a franchise be any good? Especially when it comes to Italian food? Italians would probably scoff, but we like to make our own decisions—so we popped into Popolo Grunwald and met the owner, Rafał. He runs two locations, Luboń and Grunwald, and today we were in the latter.
One of the first things we noticed? The menu. Super clear, with photos of each dish. Usually, photo menus feel cheap, Rafał admitted, “We wanted people to know what’s coming, but keep it classy—these photos are our way of inviting you in.” Somehow, it works. The images actually make the experience better, giving the dishes personality before they even hit the table.
The vibe is cozy, lively, and effortlessly Italian. Rafał, a local legend with nearly 25 years in the restaurant scene, explained, “People are craving local, residential-style spots. That’s what we aim to be—Italian comfort, close to home.”
Let’s Talk Food
Now, let’s talk food. Rafał helped guide our picks, though we were already eyeing the menu. First up: bruschetty z pomidorami—grzanki z salsą pomidorową, pesto i rukolą. Crunchy, fresh, and perfectly balanced, it set the tone.

The showstopper for us: spaghetti aglio olio e peperoncino—spaghetti with olive oil, garlic, chili, parsley, and pine nuts. Rafał told us, “We keep it simple because every ingredient has to shine. It’s Italian soul on a plate.” And he wasn’t kidding: the pasta was perfectly al dente, the chili gave just enough kick, and the pine nuts added a subtle, nutty crunch.

We also tried the 170g Angus Steak Grenadine—melt-in-your-mouth tender, buttery, with mushrooms and a sprinkle of salt that brought it all together. Pro tip from Rafał: “Steak lovers, don’t skip this one.”

With local, residential-style restaurants set to dominate Poznań’s 2026 scene, Popolo fits perfectly. The answer? Yes—this franchise doesn’t feel like a franchise at all. Grunwald locals, it’s a must-visit. Say hi to Rafał from us when you go!
