The Lowdown
If you’ve been in Poznań long enough, chances are you’ve already hit up Piccolo at least once. It’s not just a pasta joint—it’s a legend. A no-frills, budget-friendly spot where the spaghetti bolognese has been a staple for as long as anyone can remember. Back in the day, you could grab a massive 400g plate for just 3 PLN—absolute madness! Now, it’s 10 PLN for the cheapest portion, but one thing hasn’t changed: the taste. It’s predictable, reliable, and nostalgic, like stepping into a time machine where every bite takes you back.

Enter Peppino: The New Kid on the Block
Now, here comes Peppino, the fresh contender with three locations already popping up across the city including Grunwald and Ogrody and the Old Town.

Their newest spot on Wodna 13 Street, just a minute from the market square, is clean, modern, and spacious. When we walked in, The Weeknd was playing, which—let’s be real—is always a solid vibe. But the big question remains: Can Peppino dethrone Piccolo?

The Showdown: Who Does It Better?
Both spots operate the same way—big bain-maries keeping the pasta and sauce warm for quick service. But is Peppino actually better?
The Pasta
Peppino’s spaghetti is noticeably higher quality—super al dente, just how it should be. Big win.

The Sauce
Piccolo’s bolognese has that classic, restaurant-style taste—something hard to replicate at home. Peppino’s? It leans more towards homemade comfort food—a little less spicy, a bit sweeter. Different vibe, but still solid.

The Price Factor: The Gamechanger That Wasn’t
You’d think Peppino would try to undercut Piccolo on price to lure in the loyal pasta fiends, but nope. It’s actually 2-3 PLN more expensive depending on the portion size. Is it because the quality is better? Probably. But does the Piccolo crowd even care? That’s a tough one.

Final Verdict?
Honestly? It all comes down to location. I wouldn’t walk past a Peppino to get to a Piccolo, and vice versa. Peppino is a solid addition to the scene, but Piccolo is a beast that won’t be toppled easily. People don’t say “Let’s grab spaghetti” in Poznań. They say “Let’s go for a Piccolo.” That’s how deep it runs.

That said, huge respect to Peppino for stepping into the ring. If you’re in the mood for a slightly fancier take on cheap pasta, give them a shot. Otherwise, Piccolo will always be waiting.
