NO NEOPOLITAN PLEASE – PART 1: BIG BOSS PIZZA IN JEŻYCE

Poznan is Obsessed

Let’s get one thing out the way — Poznań is obsessed with Neapolitan-style pizza. We get it. It’s light, it’s fancy, it’s got that signature leopard crust, and it looks great on Instagram. Perfect for date night. But what if you want something different? Something with a little more bite, a little more sauce, a little more… pizza?

No Neapolitan Please

So, welcome to our new mini-series: No Neapolitan Please, where we hunt down the best non-fancy, non-floppy, and non-minimalist pizzas in the city.

Kicking things off: Bigg Boss Pizza in Jeżyce

Tucked just off Jeżyce Square, a few steps down into a semi-basement, Big Boss is easy to miss — despite the massive sign. But trust us, once you know it’s there, it’s hard to forget. The vibe? Clean, casual, and cosy, with a couple of neon signs that let you know it’s not trying too hard — it’s here to feed you. A lot.

They do pizzas up to 50cm wide. Yeah, half a meter of dough, sauce, and delicious chaos. And while it’s perfect for takeaway or a house party, there’s a small space inside if you wanna eat it hot and fresh.

Big Boss Deal

Order 3x pizzas (40cm or 50cm) and get 50% off the third one (cheapest one), plus 3 sauces on the house, and either a 0.85L cola or 1L multi-vitamin juice. Honestly? We couldn’t say no.

So What Did We Try?

We skipped the basics and went brave — because that’s the spirit of this series. Here’s what we grabbed:

Fritkos (50cm)

Marinara sauce / mozzarella / chicken / FRIES / sauce of your choice / oregano
Yes, fries on pizza. This one came out massive, almost hilarious in size. The golden fries were crispy, the chicken tender, and we went with garlic sauce to bring it all together.
Verdict: Think late-night munchie dream meets stoner genius. Surprisingly awesome. Weirdly comforting.

Dla Piwo aka “For Beer” (50cm)

Marinara / mozzarella / bacon / pickled cucumber / raw ham / granulated garlic / oregano
This was salty, tangy, savoury, and hands-down the most unique combo we’ve had in a while. The pickled cucumber hits like a shot of vinegar right when the richness of the bacon and ham tries to slow you down.
Verdict: This is the pizza that slaps hard with a cold beer. Not subtle. Not sorry.

The Big Boss (50cm)

Marinara sauce / mozzarella / tomato slices / minced pork & beef / Dorblu cheese / black olives / basil / oregano
This is their signature for a reason. It hits all the notes — rich, savoury, slightly funky from the Dorblu, and balanced by the freshness of tomato and basil. The minced meat mix gives it that full, satisfying bite, while the olives and blue cheese sneak in some grown-up flavour without overpowering it.
Verdict: A proper meal. Deep, punchy, and layered. This one’s for when you’re really hungry — or sharing with the whole squad.

The Dough?

Thicker than Neapolitan, but not heavy like a brick. Think soft but sturdy. It holds the weight of those toppings like a champ — and trust us, you won’t need more than 2-3 slices. This ain’t a light snack — it’s a full send.

Pro Tip

Grab your pizzas and head to Marcinkowskiego Park (a short walk) — chill by the fountain, soak up that sweet vitamin D, and let the sunshine do its thing. As for me? I’m Spanish, so obviously… siesta time. Perfect afternoon, sorted.

Final Take

Bigg Boss is exactly what the name says. Big portions, bold toppings, zero pretension. It’s pizza for the people who wanna feel full, try something wild, or just need a solid option for a party that isn’t another stack of kebabs.

Whether you’re team pineapple or team pickles, this spot has your weird craving covered — and then some.
