What started as a chill summer afternoon at Lake Rusałka in Poznań quickly turned into a nightmare on Wednesday (July 2). Emergency services were scrambled after a man plunged into the lake and vanished beneath the surface — never to resurface.
It was around 6:06 p.m. when firefighters received the chilling call from a group of teenagers who witnessed the man jump into the water and disappear. Without hesitation, six fire brigades rushed to the scene, including diving teams ready for the worst.
The lake, normally a hub for summer fun, was shut down immediately as the search operation dragged on through dusk, and then overnight. Officials described the missing man as about 180 cm tall, with graying hair.
Despite hours of intense searching, rescue teams came up empty-handed — the man remains missing as police take over the investigation. The search resumed early Thursday morning, but the situation remains grim.
This chilling event serves as a stark warning: please be extremely cautious near the water. Even a quiet afternoon can spiral into tragedy in seconds.
