We Walked Into a Yoga Studio in Poznań and Walked Out Spiritually Curious

Another Gem

Last time we were out exploring Łazarz, we dove deep into the Pilates scene on Głogowska and came out breathing better. Turns out, just one floor up from that very spot on Grottgera 3/4 hides another gem we couldn’t ignore: Surya Yoga.

We didn’t plan it

The universe just vibed us in the right direction. One return trip from Pilates, a curious glance up the beautiful stairwell, and the discovery unfolded. Of course, we did what any curious soul would do: reached out, asked questions, did our homework, and booked ourselves in for our very first yoga session (we’ll tell you all about it soon).

This article is based on our first impressions, conversations with the Surya team, and a little deep dive into their story, their people, and the kind of energy they’ve cultivated — because it really does feel like something special. And it’s time you heard about it too.

What’s in a Name?

First off: Surya means sun — a fitting name for a studio that radiates warmth, clarity, and quiet strength.

It comes from Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga that’s been passed down for millennia — a language known not just for its beauty but for its depth and precision. Sanskrit isn’t random. It’s layered, intentional. And in that spirit, this studio feels exactly like its name.

Inside the studio, you’ll find two bright, high-ceilinged spaces: the Surya Room (Sun) and the Chandra Room (Moon). They’re named after the core forces in yogic philosophy — ha (sun) and tha (moon) — which also form the word hatha, the root of many modern yoga styles. The vibe? Balance. Stillness. Breath.

What They Offer

At Surya, the class menu reads like a love letter to both traditional yoga and intuitive modern practice. Their foundation is Ashtanga Yoga, a dynamic, breath-led sequence rooted in discipline and flow. You can dive in with a guided class, where the teacher leads the group in sync, or step into a Mysore-style practice, where you move at your own pace with quiet, personalized guidance.

If you’re new or want to go deeper, the Ashtanga Courses run over 10 weeks — giving you space to learn, build confidence, and grow with consistency. For expectant mothers, they offer Yoga During Pregnancy, taught with deep empathy and understanding by women who’ve lived it. It’s gentle, grounding, and helps you stay connected to your body during a transformative time.

Also…

They also offer Yoga Therapy — a more tailored experience focused on supporting physical, emotional, or energetic needs. And if you crave the deep stillness of long-held postures, Yin Yoga offers a slow, meditative practice that works deep into connective tissues and calms the nervous system.

There’s space for the one-on-one journey too, with individual yoga sessions shaped entirely around your body, your goals, your story. Then there’s the magic of Sound Baths — a full-body immersion in vibration using gongs and bowls that invite serious reset. Prefer the quiet magic of rest? Yoga Nidra is like conscious sleep — guided meditation that opens deep states of relaxation.

They also offer the Moon Sequence, a fluid, intuitive practice synced to feminine energy and the cycles of nature, and simple, accessible meditation sessions to help bring awareness back to the breath and body.

Whether you’re moving, breathing, lying still, or listening deeply — every class here feels like a return to something real.

And Yes, They Do Massages Too

Because sometimes you need to just receive. Here’s what they offer:

Masaż dźwiękiem – Sound massage with bowls and gongs.

Kobido – Japanese facial massage (next-level glow, trust).

Masaż gorącymi kamieniami – Hot stone massage for deep release.

Reiki – Subtle energy healing to balance your inner field.

Abhyanga – Traditional body massage rooted in ancient Indian medicine.

Meet the Teachers

We made the effort to speak with the team and — trust us — these women aren’t just instructors, they’re guides.

Magdalena Nowaczyk

Founder. Teacher. Sound healer. Mother. Dreamer. The force behind it all. She’s authorized by Manju Jois and brings heart and humility to everything she does. Manju Jois is the eldest son of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, the legendary founder of Ashtanga Yoga, and is considered one of the most authentic and senior representatives of the traditional Ashtanga system.

“Yoga isn’t the goal — being a healthy, happy human is.”

Being authorized by Manju Jois means Magdalena has been directly trained and recognized by him, carrying on the lineage and tradition of Ashtanga Yoga as it was originally taught in Mysore.

Agnieszka Adamczak

Ashtanga, acupuncture, Kobido massage — Agnieszka blends movement, healing, and Eastern medicine into a one-of-a-kind vibe.

“Yoga is the power of breath, the magic of bandhas, the daily ritual of presence.”

Karolina Sarna-Komar

Artistic, Ayurvedic, in sync with the forest and the seasons. Her practice is intuitive and earthy.

“Ashtanga is meditation in motion — and it gives me rhythm.”

Katarzyna Dziąćko

Yoga nerd, beadwork artist, bird photographer — a teacher who reminds us to just keep practicing. No pressure, just presence.

“Asana is discovery without comparison.”

Beata Ziemowska

Yin yoga, lunar flows, nature cycles, Taoist movement. Beata teaches slow like it’s a superpower.

“The body holds wisdom — and we just have to learn to listen.”

Why We’re Into It

The first time we walked in, we felt it: calm without the cliché. It’s soulful, not performative. Small, but expansive. The kind of place where you’ll probably know your teacher’s name and feel like they actually see you.

We haven’t taken our first class yet — that’s happening real soon — but based on everything we’ve seen, read, and been told… we’re ready to flow. Stay tuned for our first-ever yoga report, where we’ll let you know how it actually feels to move, breathe, and stretch on the mat for the very first time.
