Talerzyki Tales
Nestled in the heart of Jezyce at Wawrzyniaka 20, Talerzyki stands as a gastronomic oasis, offering a tantalizing journey into Palestinian cuisine. Co-owned by a Palestinian Pole born in Poznan, the restaurant boasts a menu brimming with unique Middle Eastern delicacies rarely found elsewhere. In a recent rendezvous, we sat down to delve into the captivating story behind this culinary gem.

Hi! Where are you from?
I’m a Palestinian Pole, born right here in Poznan.
Do you have family in Palestine?
Absolutely, and in Jordan too.
Sorry to hear about the current conflict! Is everybody okay?
My family is mostly in the West Bank, which is not the safest place in the world right now, but thanks for asking.

How was your recent trip to Jordan? Does life continue like normal?
It’s challenging; there’s a lot of boycotting happening right now. People are not going out as much.
Did you try some of the local food while out there?
Of course! It was amazing. Jordan, being a hub for refugees, has many fusion restaurants popping up. Delicious!

Can you compare your dishes at Talerzyki to those in the region?
I would say 90%+ is the same. We are very close.

How much cheaper is it to eat out in Jordan?
About 80% cheaper, I would say.
I heard there are some amazing sunsets in that part of the world.
For sure! I remember sleeping in a tent in the Dana mountain region and watching the sunsets. I highly recommend it when times are more stable!
Favorite Dish on the Menu?
Our Makdous. It’s a traditional Middle Eastern dish made of small eggplants stuffed with walnuts, garlic, and spices, then preserved in olive oil. It has a rich, tangy, and slightly spicy flavor and is often served as part of breakfast or mezze.

Cooking Skills?
Absolutely. I experimented a lot before launching our first restaurant in Wroclaw.
Poznan Restaurant Opening?
We opened in Poznan in 2022. Lucky with the location – a friend found it and sent me the advert, and I grabbed it right away.
I see plenty of photos on the walls. Are they from your trips?
Yes. I always like to add a few photos when I get back. We also have a map on the wall of the original Palestine how it used to be.

On a lighter note, Polish Girls or Arabic Girls?
Hahaha. Mix them up, and you’ve got perfection!

A pleasure meeting you. We adore your menu and the Talerzyki vibe. Can you share some photos from your last trip to Jordan?
Sure. I hope you like them…
