Poznań’s Unique Flavor Fusion: The Only Vegan Mexican Spot in Town!

Located on Szamarzewskiego in the eclectic Jeżyce district, La Papaya is a vegan Mexican haven run by the super cool couple Timon and Judith. Surrounded by some of Poznań’s best eateries, La Papaya still manages to shine bright, earning its spot as one of the city’s top vegan joints. Plus, it’s the only vegan Mexican restaurant we know of – how rad is that?

Launching in March 2021, right in the thick of the pandemic, they started as a takeaway-only spot. But it didn’t take long before they could open their doors (and garden!) to welcome guests into their vibrant, colorful space. The decor? Total Mexican street food vibes, and the dishes are just as lively and bold.

Their menu is a flavor explosion with must-tries like totopos, tacos, churros, and the standout Torta de Milanesa. Start with some food sharing Mexican tapas such as their signature fake guacamole that skips the avocado but not the flavor! Try the frijoles refritos, a rich black bean paste, or the queso crema con salsa macha, featuring almond cheese topped with a bold macha salsa made from a blend of chiles, nuts, sesame, and oil. We have also heard their fundido is to die for: baked vegan cheese mixed with beans in a lemon marinade, topped with fresh pico de gallo and chives.

Wash it all down with unique drinks like Agua de Jamaica, cheladas, or tepache – a tangy fermented pineapple drink. La Papaya is all about keeping it real and green so they bake all their tortillas, sweets, and breads in-house. We cant wait to try their Polish sweet and sour blueberries mingled with Mexican conchas!

Make sure to also check out their summer specials menu also, such as their grilled corn cob with salsa la crema and macha salsa, tajine, cheese topping and cilantro! Looks delish and we cant wait to try it in our review article coming soon!

La Papaya’s dedication to sustainability means they use authentic Mexican ingredients and local produce to craft their dishes. Whether you’re in for a sit-down meal or a quick grab-and-go, Timon’s there to chat and Judith’s whipping up something tasty in the kitchen. And for those on the move, there are always conchas and empanadas waiting at the bar.

La Papaya is more than just a spot to eat; it’s a passion project bringing a unique, sustainable taste of Mexico to Poznań. Dive into this colorful culinary adventure and let your taste buds do the dancing and let us know what you think. NOTE: Just to let you now they are currently closed for holidays but will be back 27.07.2024. Nightmare!🌮🍍🍹
