The Greek Deli in Poznan
The sun is back, and Mediterranean food is back in vogue, so we return to an old favourite we visited back in 2024. Did you know, nestled in a converted garage in Winiary, right next to Poznań Plaza Shopping Centre, you’ll find Siga Siga, Poznań’s only Greek deli. We caught up with Agnieszka, the passionate owner, to get an inside look at this unique spot.

Hi Agnieszka. When did you open?
In October 2023, but Siga Siga has been online for a couple of years already.
Why did you decide to convert your garage at home to Siga Siga shop?
Well, the biggest companies in the world all started in a garage, right? Hahaha.
True. What did you do before?
I was a marketing manager in the corporate world.
When did you fall in love with everything Greek?
Everything changed after a family vacation to Crete in 2021. We visited an olive press and were captivated by the Vassilakis family’s history, warmth, and above all, the taste of olive oil from their four-generation pressing plant. I felt a strong urge to share our newfound passion for Greek products in Poland, so I opened the Siga Siga Shop online.
Does that mean something… Siga Siga?
It means “Slowly Slowly,” which perfectly describes Greek life, moving at a leisurely pace.
Do you speak Greek?
I’m learning very slowly. Siga Siga was one of the first phrases I learnt!
Let me test you. How to say ‘Hi’ in Greek.
Jasas. That was an easy one, hahaha.
What’s the most enjoyment you get from your job?
Well, I get to visit Greece a lot to select items. I normally use them first for a while before I offer them at Siga Siga. I want to only offer items that I love myself!

How often do you eat Greek food at home?
Very often. Olives are always in the fridge and I use Greek oil for morning scrambled eggs.

Your favourite breakfast?
My favorite Greek breakfast? Cretan-style scrambled eggs—fast, simple, and full-on Mediterranean energy.
You start by sautéing finely chopped onion and garlic in olive oil, then add diced zucchini and a handful of olives. Once it softens, season with salt, pepper, and plenty of oregano, then stir in tomato paste. Crack the eggs and gently scramble everything together until it thickens. Finish with crumbled feta and a bit of parsley, cover for a minute, and it’s ready. Easy, fresh, and seriously addictive
I noticed you have a shelving unit called ‘Siga Siga Friends’ and various baskets.
On those shelves, we have non-Greek items, but items I love from other parts of the world I picked up during my travels. Sometimes my friends also recommend things.

What is this sponge?
It’s a 100% natural sponge obtained from the Mediterranean and scooped from the bottom of the sea. It is organic and biodegradable. After immersion in water, it becomes soft, so it can be used even for sensitive skin. Most importantly, it prevents the accumulation of bacteria!

What are some of your favourite items?
Well, the sponge for sure. Also, the Extra virgin olive oils from Vassilakis Estate guarantee the highest quality and taste. The Vassilakis family has been pressing the best Greek oil in accordance with local traditions for over 150 years and 4 generations, from Koroneiki olives ripening in the hot sun of eastern Crete. Delicious! Our Pistachios from Egina are among the best in the world. The P.D.O. mark placed on the packaging confirms their origin. The pistachios that we offer are fresh, aromatic, crispy, and simply brilliant. These are the best pistachios we’ve had so far!

What do you love and hate about Greece?
I love so many things, but let’s say the weather, the food, and the lifestyle. I hate the streets, though, which are too narrow, and people park wherever they want.
Do you have any funny stories about being in Greece?
Hmm. Coming back to the parking. I remember asking a local where I could pay for parking, and he laughed and just said, “You park where you want”! Hahaha. That would be a great meme!

How about future plans?
We are still quite new, but I hope to add alcohol, especially wines. I’m working on getting some delicious fresh fruits for the Polish winter from Greece.
Wrapping Up
It’s been a pleasure to meet you. We love your deli, and we hope many people read this and come and check out your Greek items. One last question, though. Can you recommend a Greek restaurant in Poznań?
Sure! Pitagoras. It’s very authentic, I would say. Check their mezedes (antipasti) to share. It’s great.
