Scam the System? Not So Fast.
Some people will do anything for a payday, but not everyone is cut out for a life of crime. Case in point: a 37-year-old man from just outside Poznan, thought he had masterminded the perfect insurance scam—until the cops pieced it all together like a crime drama plot twist.
The Genius Plan (Or So He Thought)
Back in January, in the dead of night, flames engulfed a car workshop, reducing three vehicles to burnt-out husks. Among them? A fancy Audi SQ7—conveniently owned by our would-be criminal mastermind.

The damage was catastrophic, racking up nearly half a million PLN in losses. But here’s where it gets interesting: the Audi’s owner had a rock-solid alibi—he was out of the country when the fire started. Suspiciously convenient, right?
Following the Breadcrumbs
Investigators got to work, reviewing surveillance footage and tracking a suspicious car that had rolled into the area that night. They traced multiple license plate changes, leading them straight to two young men—our fire-starting duo.
By early February, police had their arsonists. A few interrogations later, and surprise, surprise—the plot thickened. Turns out, they hadn’t just randomly torched the Audi. No, they were hired for the job by none other than the car’s owner himself.
Oops… Busted.
With enough evidence stacked against him, the Audi’s owner was arrested on February 7. By March 19, the final charges were locked in: inciting arson, insurance fraud, and destruction of property. His master plan? Completely unraveled.

The Takeaway?
If you’re going to commit insurance fraud, maybe don’t hire guys who crack under pressure or maybe just sell the car. Just a thought.
