The Reactivation
Yo, 2024 came through with a game-changer: the government’s in vitro program is back in action, and it’s making waves across Greater Poland. After being shelved for years, this initiative is putting hope back on the table for couples dreaming of parenthood. Since its reactivation in June, more than 2,000 pairs in our region have jumped at the chance, and—brace yourself—763 pregnancies have already been confirmed.
Let’s break it down:
- Who’s onboard? Six clinics in Poznań are running the show, like the iconic Gynecological and Obstetric Clinical Hospital on Polna Street, where 77 pregnancies have already been chalked up. From Klinik Bocian to Invimed, the numbers are climbing. Over 1,000 couples have started their fertility journey in these centers.
- Why now? The demand has always been massive, but local government programs weren’t enough. With this reintroduction, couples can access multiple rounds of procedures, upping their chances significantly. And yes, the process is way smoother now.
- The bigger picture: Across Poland, 20,000 couples qualified, and more than 6,700 pregnancies have been confirmed. Greater Poland alone accounts for a big chunk of those numbers, showing just how crucial this program is.
Demand is huge
Dr. Grzegorz Mrugacz from Klinik Bocian says it best: “Couples were waiting for this. The interest is huge.” And it’s not just about today—it’s about building awareness for the future.
This isn’t just about in vitro; it’s about options. The program is also helping people preserve fertility when battling illnesses like cancer. But there’s room to grow—doctors are already calling for the program to include more conditions that affect fertility.
So, whether it’s the young couple dreaming of a family or the woman freezing her eggs to fight another day, this program is bringing serious hope.
2025? We’re just getting started. The future of fertility in Poland is looking brighter than ever.
