Inside Poznań’s Underground Feast

If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary in Poznań, let me introduce you to the Garbary Supper Club—a dining experience that takes “underground” to a whole new level. Tucked away in an apartment on Garbary Street, this is where Zuza and Anna, two passionate foodies, have created a secret supper club that’s making waves for all the right reasons.

Impossible to resist

I stumbled upon Garbary Supper Club on Instagram, and after a bit of curiosity-fueled scrolling, I knew I had to reach out. They welcomed me with open arms and even invited me to a private 2-on-1 dinner at Zuza’s place. An invitation like that? Impossible to resist. I was counting down the days, wondering how it would feel to sit down to a meal prepared by two total strangers in their own home. Spoiler alert: it was amazing.

The Hosts

A little background—Zuza and Anna have been tight since they met working at a restaurant in Śródka about eight years ago. Their supper club journey began after they hosted a triple birthday dinner for themselves and a friend, inviting around 30 people. The night was such a success that they decided to keep the vibe going, this time with strangers. Since then, they’ve gone on to cook for dozens of guests, and the proof is all over their fridge—covered with past menus proudly displayed like badges of honor, each one a testament to their culinary journey.

But don’t get it twisted—this isn’t a business venture. While there’s a cost involved for guests (usually between 200-400 PLN, depending on the theme and location), it’s all about covering expenses.

They’re obsessed with quality, sourcing ingredients from local organic farmers. Their last event? A dinner in a rented palace, where the flower bill alone rivaled the food costs!

The Welcome

When I arrived at Anna’s apartment, I was warmly greeted by both hosts. After a bit of small talk, we got into the flow over a glass of wine. The conversation quickly turned to their concept—how it breaks down social barriers and forges new friendships. It’s true; when was the last time you had a deep convo with a stranger at a restaurant? Here, it feels natural.

As for the food, I was blown away. I mean, this concept only works if the food is top-notch, and it was. Watching Zuza and Anna cook just a few feet away was like being at the theater—overhearing them discuss when something was perfectly cooked or which plate looked best added an intimate touch to the meal.

The First Bite

We kicked things off with Oysters with ponzu, a tangy Japanese citrus vinaigrette that was a zesty start to the evening. Next up was truffle curado cheese with honey and truffle paste—decadent, rich, and utterly divine. The beetroot salad with Spanish goat cheese, vinaigrette, and melon leaves was another standout. The melon leaves added a surprising, bold flavor that was entirely new to me.

The Main Event

The main course? A Spanish-inspired twist on the classic Bœuf Bourguignon with chorizo and mashed potatoes laced with Gruyère cheese. This dish stole the show. Rich, hearty, and comforting, it was everything you want in a main course. Paired with crunchy broccolini drizzled in butter, it was a match made in heaven.

The Sweet Finale

For dessert, they served homemade beurre noisette ice cream with caramelized almonds. This was no ordinary ice cream—the nutty, caramel notes of the beurre noisette combined with the crunchy almonds made it the best I’ve ever had. Seriously.

By the end of the meal, we had covered everything from food to life stories, sipped a bit more wine, and I was comfortably full. They even went the extra mile to place an air conditioning unit next to my seat—talk about attention to detail. As the evening wound down, we moved to the living room for some more wine and conversation.

Join the Table

It felt like a VIP experience from start to finish. Would I go back? Absolutely. Would I bring a friend? You bet. The next supper is on September 21st, with reservations opening on August 21st via their Instagram. Trust me, you’ll want to book your seat early—this is one experience you don’t want to miss. And when you’re there, be sure to say hi to the girls from me!
