Beware! Malta is full of ‘klescz’

You probably think the forest is the worst place for ticks. Turns out… Malta might actually be worse.

Biologist Mariusz Piotrowski compared tick populations between the Zielonka Forest and the Malta area in Poznań — and the results were pretty wild. Using special collection methods across 100m2, he found almost DOUBLE the number of ticks at Malta than in the forest.

Forest: 55 ticks.
Malta: 108 ticks. 😬

Most of the ticks found around Malta were the kind linked to Lyme disease, which doctors say is rising fast across Wielkopolska. According to the NFZ, Lyme disease cases in the region have more than doubled over the last five years.

So yeah — quick reminder:
if you’re walking, cycling, chilling on the grass or running around Malta this summer… check yourself properly afterwards.

The tiny vampires are apparently appearing everywhere.
