In the early hours of August 25, a devastating incident occurred at 12 Kraszewskiego Street in Poznań, where a double explosion in an apartment building led to a catastrophic fire. The tragedy claimed the lives of two young firefighters and left 14 others injured, including 11 firefighters and three civilians. The fire, which ignited in the building’s basement, quickly spread to the upper floors, forcing the evacuation of all residents.
In the wake of this heartbreaking event, the Poznań District Branch of the Union of Volunteer Fire Brigades of the Republic of Poland (ZOSP RP) called upon firefighters across the district to honor their fallen comrades. On August 25, at precisely 6:00 pm, TSO units and fire stations gathered to observe a minute of silence in memory of the deceased. The poignant moment, marked by the somber sounds of emergency signals, was a collective tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who lost their lives.
The firefighters who died were a 34-year-old and a 33-year-old. One of them had two children, the deputy interior minister announced. The State Fire Service (SFS) also participated in this solemn observance, with units across the country activating their emergency signals at the designated time. The Polish police joined in solidarity, sounding their own signals as a gesture of respect and support for the grieving families and the firefighting community.
This moment of reflection and respect brought together the entire nation, uniting people in their grief and their admiration for the courage of those who gave their lives in service to others.
