Trapped, tortured, starved, and raped, her ordeal only came to light after a brutal beating left her in critical condition, forcing her torturer to take her to the hospital not too far outside of Poznan.
It all began in 2019, when the woman, then 30 years old, connected with a 35-year-old man online. Believing she would be safe visiting him, especially since he lived with his family, she decided to meet him in person. But what was supposed to be a friendly visit quickly spiraled into a nightmare that would last half a decade.
Upon arriving, the woman was locked in a small, utility room with no access to water, light, or heating. For the next five years, she was subjected to relentless torture, starvation, and sexual assault. Deprived of basic necessities like hygiene products, medicines, and even access to a toilet, she was forced to endure unimaginable suffering in complete isolation. Astonishingly, no one noticed her absence, and no reports were ever made to the authorities.
The woman’s hellish captivity might have continued if not for a particularly severe beating that left her critically injured. The man who had imprisoned her drove her to the hospital, threatening her to remain silent about her ordeal. However, the severity of her injuries raised alarms among the medical staff, who promptly called in a psychologist. In a moment of courage, the woman finally revealed the horrific details of her captivity, including the fact that she had been forced to give birth to a child who was later put up for adoption. She explained that each time she was allowed out of the room, her captor would place a balaclava over her head, ensuring she had no idea where she was or how to escape.
On August 29, the 35-year-old man was arrested and brought to the prosecutor’s office for questioning the following day. Despite overwhelming evidence, the man pleaded not guilty, providing detailed explanations that law enforcement has yet to disclose. He now faces up to 25 years in prison for his crimes.
