A tense police operation unfolded on Świerzawska Street in Poznań on 27 October after a man barricaded himself inside premises associated with a jeweller and reportedly threatened an explosion.
Officers were called at around 4:40 p.m. The man was described as aggressive and unresponsive to police instructions, prompting officers to force entry.
Gas cylinder discovered inside
Police reported a strong smell of gas and found a gas cylinder, a burner and open gas stove controls. Firefighters and the gas emergency service were called to the scene.

A 64-year-old man was detained. Police said the building was empty, so no evacuation was necessary. The motive remained unclear at the time of reporting.
What could have become a major emergency ended with the suspect in custody — and a very real reminder of how quickly a gas threat can escalate.
