This week Poznań Daily was contacted personally by someone trying to help save the life of her daughter’s 11-year-old friend, Amelka.
Her message began: “I’m trying to move heaven and earth to help save the life of my daughter’s friend.”
Amelka suffers from a rare arteriovenous malformation (AVM). Her family and supporters say the condition is progressing and that without treatment it could pose a serious risk to her life.
A clinic in Germany has been found that is willing to treat her, but the cost is enormous: more than 1 million PLN needs to be raised.
The fundraiser has stalled
Amelka recently returned to school, but her mother, Anna, says the condition is increasingly affecting her everyday life.
She has received calls from school after Amelka complained of severe pain in her arm. The 11-year-old loves playing the harp, but sometimes the pain becomes so strong that she has to stop.
Her mother recalls one particularly difficult question from her daughter:
“Mum, am I going to live?”
Anna says the family needs to raise enough money for the planned course of treatment, but donations have slowed.
That’s why people close to Amelka are now trying everything they can — fundraising, sharing her story and organising charity auctions.
