Arrested for a Facebook Comment?! Poznan Man Facing 3 YEARS in Prison. Free Speech Dead or Justice Served?

Poznań just dropped a case that’s about to split the internet in half.

A 46-year-old man was arrested at Poznań’s main train station, not for theft, not for violence… but for what he wrote on Facebook.

Yeah. Let that sink in.

From keyboard to cuffs

It all started at the end of January, when a local resident reported something seriously disturbing.

Under a Facebook post — and in private messages — the man allegedly told the victim he should:
“pour gasoline on himself and set himself on fire.”

Not edgy. Not “just a comment.”
Straight-up violent, targeted threats.

The victim took it seriously. And so did the police.

Caught when he least expected it

Working with the cybercrime unit and prosecutors, police tracked him down, despite him hiding behind a fake name online.

The arrest?
Right at Poznań Główny station.

No warning. No escape. Total shock.

And now it gets heavy…

He’s been:

  • charged with inciting a crime and making threats
  • locked in custody for 3 months while the case is prepared
  • facing up to 3 YEARS in prison

Three years… for words typed on a screen.

So… where do we draw the line?

This is where it gets messy. And real.

On one side:
This wasn’t “just an opinion” it was a direct, violent threat
If ignored, what stops it from becoming real?

On the other:
Arrested. Held for 3 months. Facing prison.
Is this still free speech… or are we entering a new territory?

Poznań, what do YOU think?

Let’s not dodge it:

  • Is this exactly how it should be handled?
  • Or is this too far, punishing words like crimes?
  • Should he walk… or get the maximum 3 years?

One thing is clear:
You’re not anonymous online anymore.

But the bigger question?
Are you still free?
