Tokyo Street Flavours Hit Poznan. Inside Umi — The New Japanese Ramen & Sushi Spot Everyone’s Talking About

やあ、ポズナン!

At Poznan Daily we’re always on the hunt for something new in Poznań. New flavors. New spots. New energy. Lately our radar has been locked on Japanese food, so we started asking around town. One name kept popping up again and again:

Umi.

Quick Japanese lesson. “Umi” (海) means “sea” or “ocean.” It’s a word often connected with fresh seafood and ocean flavors. A pretty strong clue about what you might find on the menu.

So we headed to Kulinarna Kamienica Food Hall on Podgórna 13 — the new indoor food hall in the Old Town everyone’s been talking about.

And since we hadn’t eaten there yet, Umi seemed like the perfect place to start the mission.

Sushi Samurai in the Kitchen

Behind Umi is husband-and-wife duo Maria Tryhubyshyn and Andrzej Zhdanov, with Andrzej bringing over 12 years of experience as a sushi master and deep knowledge of Japanese cuisine.

The place was packed when we walked in. Luckily we managed to grab a table by the window, which felt a bit like winning the last seat on the Tokyo metro at rush hour.

Small Menu. Big Energy.

We love a menu that keeps things tight.

Umi does exactly that. You’ll find 3 ramen bowls, 4 types of sushi rolls (nigiri, special rolls, futomaki and California), 6 dim sum, a couple of soups and 6 starters. Simple. Focused. No chaos.

Our strategy? One from each category.

Ramen. Sushi. Dim sum. Plus a kombucha to wash it all down.

First thing we noticed: speed. The kitchen moves with purpose, something we don’t always see in food halls. Even better, the kitchens in Kulinarna Kamienica Food Hall are fully open, so you can watch the action live. Very Tokyo street-market vibes.

Tantanmen Ramen – A Top 3 Bowl

We started with the Tantanmen ramen (49 zł).

Creamy chicken broth, sesame paste, spicy minced meat, half an egg, pak choi, chives, red onion, nuts and noodles. The broth was rich, nutty and slightly spicy, with layers of umami hitting one after another.

Comfort food meets Japanese street bowl.

Honestly? Top three Tantanmen ramen we’ve tried in Poznań. No debate. And yes… slurping mandatory.

Dim Sum Drop

Next up: Mixed Dim Sum – 10 pieces for 48 zł.

Inside the bamboo basket were shrimp, cheese & spinach, vegetables and pork & spinach versions. Light wrappers, juicy fillings and that perfect dim-sum bite where the flavor pops the moment you hit it.

Simple. Steamy. Dangerous, because once you start, they disappear fast.

Tuna Truffle Roll – Absolute Banger

Then came the Tuna Truffle Special Roll (55 zł).

Rice, nori, Japanese mayo, tempura shrimp, avocado, topped with tuna, truffle paste and chives.

And yes, the truffle actually shows up. Not one of those “maybe there’s truffle somewhere” situations. The flavor hits immediately and blends perfectly with the tuna and crispy shrimp.

Big, bold, and seriously addictive.

Sushi… In a Tube?

Before leaving we spotted something we’ve never seen in Poznań before. A Push-Pop Sushi tube (64 zł).

Basically, 10 pieces of sushi stacked inside a tube. When you push from the bottom, the sushi pops out piece by piece like a sushi dispenser for humans on the move.

They offer options with raw salmon, baked salmon, cooked shrimp or tempura shrimp, and there’s even a soy sauce bottle attached to the side.

Street food meets sushi engineering. Perfect for grabbing and eating on the go. And honestly? Don’t be surprised if this becomes a Poznań trend in 2026.

いただきます

Great service. Fast kitchen. Strong flavors. Cool location inside Kulinarna Kamienica Food Hall. Umi is a seriously solid Japanese stop in the Old Town. Our top pick from the visit?

Honestly… everything we tried. But if push comes to shove, then the truffle sushi is the bomb!

Make sure Umi Poznań is firmly on your radar. This spot is bringing serious Japanese street-food energy to the city and it’s definitely one to watch for 2026. Say hi to Maria and Andrzej from us when you get there!
