We Went Underground: Interview with the Mind Behind Lovage Hill Records, Poznań’s Rising Music Studio

Yo Poznań!

You’ve been blowing up our inbox like it’s tax season with the same question: “Where can I record music in this city that isn’t my friend’s closet with a 90 zł mic?”

Some of you got bars. Some of you think you got bars. Some of you got courage. And honestly, we respect all three. So, we did what we always do: hit the streets, stalked the internet harder than your ex, and talked to basically everyone who’s ever rhymed “money” with “honey.”

Our first stop?
A place that’s literally underground and spiritually underground.

Welcome to Lovage Hill Records.

Mirtowa 21, Radojewo. Far from the center, close to the madness. In a basement where the air smells like ambition, cables, and maybe a hint of yesterday’s energy drink. This is the domain of Wojciech Tupalski, 23 years old, psychology student, music producer, engineer, therapist and rap whisperer.

The Origin Story — LHR Begins

Music hit Wojciech at 18 like a truck with subwoofers. But instead of just vibing in his bedroom like a normal teenager, he did the unthinkable — he built a whole-ass studio. What started as a safe space for underground rappers grew into a squad, a collective, a vibe: Lovage Hill Records.

His biggest influence? Mac Miller — and honestly, you can feel that energy in the room. Not sad-boy vibes — but that “do what you love or go home” mentality.

THE INTERVIEW — RAW, UNCUT, NO AUTOTUNE

Hi. You are studying psychology. Why?

“Bro, people fascinate me. Why we do dumb shit. Why we do smart shit. Why we pretend we’re fine when we’re not. It’s all interesting.”

Are you analyzing me right now?

“Hahaha, relax. I can switch that mode on and off… Unless you say some wild shit, then maybe not.

Did your family back this move, or did they think you lost your mind?

“At first? Nah. They thought it was a phase. But once I started paying rent with music instead of tears, they saw the vision.”

Describe Lovage Hill in three words that would piss off a major label exec.

“Flexible. Passion. Ambition.” (Translation: ‘We’re independent and making noise you can’t control.’)

Who’s the hardest rapper that’s stepped into your booth?

“Jay Kay. His stuff hits different. Dude became my best friend by accident, hahaha.”

Does he still record here?

“Three days a week. He’s basically furniture at this point.”

How do you handle clients who think they’re Kanye but sound like karaoke night?

“Ego is fuel. If you don’t think you’re the best, you’ll never sound like it. I encourage it.”

Be real, how often do sessions turn into therapy?

“More than I expected. We talk about everything. Music is just the doorway.”

Can you spot real pain vs fake struggle?

“Oh for sure. When it’s real, you feel it in the room. Honesty on the mic is a different kind of beautiful.”

Does psychology give you an edge?

“Yeah. Communication is key. I help artists turn problems into lyrics.”

Ever heard bars so dark you thought ‘this dude needs help, not a mic’?

“Haha… sometimes. Especially in freestyles. I stay professional but yeah — it gets heavy.”

Can you rap?

“I can. I just don’t. Producer life, bro.”

Famous rapper or successful producer?

“Producer. I like the shadows. Less pressure, more control.”

Wildest shit that’s happened in the studio?

“Hahahaha… let’s just say ‘unexpected parties.’ Good memories. Bad cleanup.”

Last time you slept here?

“A week ago. Happens more than it should.”

Ever been betrayed in this journey?

“Yeah. Business partner situation. Didn’t work out. Long story, short ending.”

Favorite rapper in Poland?

“Jay Kay. I’m sticking with my guy.”

What’ve you sacrificed for Lovage Hill?

“Nights out. Friends. Social life. Sleep. But it’s worth it.”

Is this a weed-free zone?

“Hahaha… no comment.

Do you flex the studio on dates?

“Not on the first date… maybe the second. Gotta build the suspense.”

I see you have a bar here also?

“Yeah. Most of it’s gifts. Artists talk better when they’re comfortable.”

Who sprayed the walls?

“Everyone. Artists come, leave their mark. It’s a time capsule.”

Last question…what’s the dream?

“To build a place where anyone with a story can walk in and walk out an artist. To make LHR a hub — a movement — not just a studio. And maybe one day… have a platinum record hanging in this basement.”

WRAPPING IT UP

If you think you’re the next big rapper… If your friends keep telling you “bro you gotta record that”… If your shower acoustics are getting tired of you…Hit up Lovage Hill Records.

And come ready because this basement might be where your first real track is born.
