John van den Brom sacked from Lech Poznan!

John van den Brom served as Kolejorz’s coach for a year and a half, achieving notable milestones such as leading the team to the group stage and quarterfinals of the European Conference League for the first time in its history. Last season, Lech secured third place in the league, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Polish Cup, but faced elimination in the Europa Conference League qualifying round against Spartak Trnava from Slovakia.

After 81 matches under the Dutch coach, the club announced the termination of his contract following a draw against Radomiak Radom. According to Tomasz Rząsa, the sports director of Lech Poznań, the decision was the result of a thorough analysis of the situation, considering both the unsatisfactory league performance in the autumn round and the team’s struggles in European competitions this season.

Rząsa acknowledged van den Brom’s significant contributions, particularly in the historic European journey of the previous season. Despite the amicable separation, it was deemed the best solution.

Taking charge from December 18 will be Mariusz Rumak, officially named the first coach. Rumak previously led Lech’s first team from February 2012 to August 2014, securing the Polish runner-up title twice. His recent experience at the club’s Academy as the deputy director responsible for coach development positions him well to address the team’s challenges.

Rząsa emphasized the need for an impulse to unlock the team’s potential, choosing Rumak for his intimate knowledge of the club’s realities and coaching experience. The contract is set to run until the end of the season, June 30, 2024. The club also hinted at upcoming changes in the training staff as part of a broader restructuring effort.
