Zorros Opens in Poznań: Argentinian Empanadas, Pan de Queso & Yerba Mate

small is cool again.

There’s something we’re loving about Poznań right now: some of the most interesting new openings are also some of the smallest.

No enormous dining room. No 14-page menu. Just a few things done properly, good people behind the counter and a place you actually want to hang around in.

Zorros, newly opened at Szyperska 2, gets it.

Run by a married Polish-Argentinian couple Jola and Hermes, this little city-centre spot brings a taste of Argentina to Poznań — and we dropped in hungry.

First up: Pan de Queso

Do not skip these.

Pan de Queso (Chipá) are little gluten-free cheese breads made with manioc flour. They arrive slightly crisp and chewy outside, soft and almost bouncy inside, with plenty of melted-cheese goodness going on.

There are three versions: Cheto Classic with Grana Padano, gouda and ricotta; a punchier Cuatro Quesos with blue cheese; and Pizza Style with sun-dried tomatoes, olives, ricotta, gouda and herbs.

Three pieces cost 22–23 zł.

Dangerously snackable.

Obviously, we ordered all the empanadas

Rather than choose, we went straight for the Mix (46 zł) — one of each.

There’s Criolla Vege with soy protein, olives, egg, peppers and spring onion; Pollo from Buenos Aires, packed with shredded chicken in tomato salsa; and Panceta y Queso, where smoked bacon meets caramelised onion and melted cheese.

That last one? Yeah. Good luck sharing.

They come with Zorros’ homemade chimichurri, loaded with parsley, garlic, herbs, paprika, oil and white wine vinegar. Get involved.

Stay for the mate

The food is good, but the personality of this place comes from the people running it.

Because Zorros is so small, you actually meet Jola and Hermes. You talk about the food, ask questions and end up hanging around longer than planned.

And that’s exactly the vibe.

Before leaving, try the yerba mate. It comes Argentinian-style in its little mate vessel with a metal straw and a thermos of hot water. Pour. Sip. Refill. Repeat. Earthy, bitter and completely different from grabbing another coffee.

Although speaking of coffee, there’s also an agua de jamaica tonic espresso. Hibiscus, tonic and espresso. Weird? A little. Worth ordering? Absolutely.

Our verdict? Go.

Zorros isn’t trying to be the next enormous restaurant opening.

Thank God.

It’s small, personal, affordable and full of character — exactly the kind of independent place we want to see more of in Poznań.

Head to Szyperska 2, order the Pan de Queso, get the empanada Mix and let the owners introduce you to proper yerba mate.

And while you’re there, say hello.

New places need people through the door. Go support the ones putting food, personality and community first.
