Fatal Road Accident in Poznan: Driver Krystian G. Detained in the Netherlands

Krystian G., wanted under a European Arrest Order for the fatal hit-and-run of a 13-year-old girl, has been detained in the Netherlands. The man had been evading law enforcement since the sentencing.

The tragic accident occurred on July 16, 2021, near the village of Nowy Świat in the Leszno poviat. Krystian G., under the influence of drugs, was driving a passenger car at a significantly excessive speed when he struck 13-year-old Tosia, who was crossing a bicycle path. Despite doctors’ efforts, Tosia succumbed to her injuries after several days in the hospital.

In December 2023, Krystian G. was sentenced to 7 years and 3 months in prison. However, following the verdict, he fled and did not report to custody as required. Law enforcement agencies launched an extensive search, discovering that he had left Poland. Consequently, a European Arrest Order was issued.

“Leszno policemen made efforts to stop the fugitive as soon as possible. They were in constant contact with colleagues from the Search and Identification Department of KWP People in Poznań, who finally took over the case. Poznań ‘Hunters’ obtained information that Krystian G. was hiding in the Netherlands. Through the International Police Cooperation Office, they forwarded these messages to Dutch policemen,” stated Monika Żymełka from KMP in Leszno.

Krystian G. was apprehended in Edam, near Amsterdam. The 33-year-old is currently in custody in the Netherlands and will soon be transported to Poland to serve his sentence. This case highlights the collaborative efforts of international law enforcement in bringing fugitives to justice, ensuring that they face the consequences of their actions.
