For years, the Poznań Equality March has been a vibrant celebration, attracting crowds of colorful, joyful participants. This year’s edition promises to be exceptional, with a significant influx of participants from Warsaw, who plan to attend the Poznań event as a form of protest against the divided gatherings in their own city.
The Poznań jubilee Equality March, the grand finale of Poznań Pride 2024, will take place on June 29 at 2:00 PM. The route for the peaceful procession has been mapped out, winding through the streets of Centrum, Jeżyce, and Ogrodów. Organizers anticipate that these streets will be filled to capacity with marchers.
The enthusiasm for this year’s march is evident. “How many people will march through the streets of Poznań? We can estimate this by the data collected on Facebook. Last year, 5,046 people declared their participation at this time; now there are already 7,200,” says Arek Kluk from the Stonewall Group, the organization behind the march.
This surge in interest may be partly due to the turmoil surrounding the Warsaw Equality Parade. A split among the organizers has led to two competing parades in Warsaw, prompting many Varsovians to opt for Poznań’s unified and harmonious event instead. Online declarations from Warsaw residents express a preference for joining Poznań’s cohesive celebration rather than choosing between the conflicting events in their own city.
With the heightened anticipation and increased participation, the 20th Equality March in Poznań is shaping up to be the largest and most significant in its history.
