Lech Poznań Welcomes New Coach Niels Frederiksen Amidst Major Team Overhaul

Lech Poznań has officially announced that Danish coach Niels Frederiksen will take the helm starting the new season. Frederiksen arrived in Poznań on May 14 to sign his contract and will immediately begin evaluating the team.

Despite high expectations following summer reinforcements, Lech Poznań’s season has been disappointing. Currently sitting in 5th place, the team’s lackluster performance has frustrated fans and led to their exclusion from the next Conference League.

John van den Brom, who failed to advance the team past the European cups’ qualifying stage and produced poor league results, has been replaced by Mariusz Rumak, who also struggled to improve the team’s performance. Frederiksen now steps in to prepare for the 2024/2025 season, assessing the squad and planning changes.

According to Dawid Dobrasz from Meczyki.pl, Frederiksen plans to part ways with players Nika Kwekweskiri and Adriel Ba Loua. Kwekweskiri played 121 matches with six goals and seven assists, while Ba Loua played 83 matches, scoring six goals and providing six assists. Additionally, Barry Douglas, Artur Sobiech, Kristoffer Velde, Filip Bednarek, and Alan Czerwiński are also likely to leave, signaling a significant team reconstruction. The club anticipates making three or four new transfers and giving opportunities to homegrown talents.
